Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos are the creative force behind the Peter Pilotto label. Pilotto is half-Austrian, half-Italian and De Vos is half-Belgian, half-Peruvian. Their fusion of cultures is reflected on their catwalk; constructed silhouettes, couture fabrics and intricate prints are all part of the label’s signature.

Pilotto and De Vos met whilst studying in Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 2000. Pilotto graduated in 2004 and established his label due to requests from international buyers, among these the influential Parisian boutique Maria Luisa. De Vos graduated in 2005 and in 2007 the duo presented their first collection together for Spring/Summer 2008. The Pilotto signature of graphic and innovative prints originates from Peter Pilotto’s graduate collection at the Antwerp Academy. The graphics flatter the contours of the female form, and combine elegant cutting with draping and tailoring. “What we explained in the beginning is that Christopher concentrated on shapes and silhouettes, me more the prints and colours” says Pilotto. “Each step is a collaboration, and a dialogue, all the time”.

Pilotto first showed at London Fashion Week in September 2008, with the support of the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN scheme. In 2009 they received the Swarovski award for “Emerging Talent: Womenswear”; in 2011 they received the Fashion Forward sponsorship for their Spring/Summer 2012 collection, supported by the British Fashion Council. Most recently, in 2014 they were awarded the prestigious British Fashion Council/VOGUE Fashion Fund.

These awards reflect the unique viewpoint the designers bring to fashion. They find inspiration everywhere: in Japanese LED trucks; in the works of James Turrell and Ken Price; in illustrated manuscripts in London’s Royal Library.
